Welcome to the Gathering Place

I’m Ginna Berg, executive director of the Fraser River Indigenous Society and I would like to welcome you to the Gathering Place. The Gathering Place is a vision for a physical space for Indigenous peoples to be honoured with a purpose focused environment united in pride, strength, and a sense of belonging.

It’s also what we are calling this space on our website where you can find updates, photos and stories as we work to provide key culturally relevant services to Indigenous families and children in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge on the traditional territories of the Katzie and Kwantlen First Nations. As FRIS progresses in our journey, check back here often to keep in touch with what’s new.

FRIS was previously known as Fraser River All Nations Aboriginal Society (FRANAS). Our new name reflects the alignment of language while honouring and valuing work and contributions made under the previous name. It is inclusive language acknowledging the diversity of our urban community.

We are currently looking for Program Managers to join our team. One will be for Early Years Programs (Aboriginal Infant Development Program (AIPD); Early Years Services; Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD); and Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSN) Guide). The second will be for Family Development Programs (Family Strengthening; Access; and Community Program Services). The managers will lead the hiring process for program staff, including a Knowledge Keeper to support program development.

Keep visiting this Gathering Place for more information, updates, photos and stories from FRIS and our community.
